Some people have had to reset to factory settings to resolve this issue. Until a firmware update comes out, it is best to just keep your console off when you aren’t playing. Specifically, it seems that playing Miles Morales is associated with this issue, though it is unclear as to whether that the game is directly related.
“Rebuilding database” Message When Accessing Settings
Some players have encountered an issue with the settings menu. When accessing settings the PlayStation 5 sometimes freezes, with no access to controller functionality or the power button. Some players have been unplugging their consoles to fix this, which could potentially be damaging to the PS5’s hardware. In any case, it is probably best to just wait it out if your system freezes; unplugging could make an already annoying problem even worse.
Updating Via LAN Port Bricking Systems
The PS5 help thread on the r/PS5 subreddit strongly urges users to not use wired internet for the initial firmware setup. Apparently, using the PS5’s LAN port to update your system is capable of completely bricking your PS5. At date, it is very much encouraged to use wireless internet for anything. It is best to err on the side of caution with this one. Even if your console doesn’t brick after updating via the LAN port, you may be forced to reset your PS5 to factory settings, stressing you out and wasting your time.
Simply Not Receiving A PlayStation 5 System
