Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

A New Knights Of The Old Republic Game Is In The Works

Posted on January 29, 2021January 29, 2021 by Dakota Deitsch

According to a few different sources, another Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game is in the works. It appears that it is being developed by someone other than the original game’s makers, Bioware. Although this has been rumored in the past, this is the first time we’ve heard of the possibility that it could go to a different studio.

Until recently, it was always EA who was responsible for Star Wars games, thanks to their arrangement with Lucasfilm. However, recently with that deal coming to a close, and the announcement of Lucasfilm Games, Disney is already exploring other studios to take over some Star Wars games.

With Ubisoft taking over the new Star Wars open-world game they announced, and Bethesda working on the new Indiana Jones game, it’s anyone’s guess on who could be working on the new Knights of the Old Republic addition..

A Star Wars insider, Bespin Bulletin, was recently on an episode of B.O.B. The Podcast, and mentioned the new installment to the franchise. “Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere,” Bespin Bulletin said. “I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that Jason Schreier said that it’s not with EA, and we’ll ‘never guess’ who the studio is that’s making this game.”

Knights of the Old Republic New

Nate Najda, another well-known person who talks about unannounced games news, supported the claims that someone new is working on Knights of the Old Republic. He recently posted in a gaming forum, “It’s not as mysterious as you think. It’s just not a household name most people are aware of.”

The first Knights of the Old Republic game came out in 2003. The story took place 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, a time when the Jedi thrived. It was an RPG that told a Jedi versus Sith story. It was also loved by Star Wars fans.

The sequel, The Sith Lords, came out in 2004. It was created by Obsidian and was the last entry in the series unless you count the 2011 MMO, Knights of the Old Republic. The MMO has had a steady fan base, and the franchise continuation is one of the biggest requests for Star Wars video games.

Bespin Bulletin also heard rumors of a new Bounty Hunter game and that EA was working on a smaller Star Wars title. He stated that he was pretty sure the unannounced EA game wasn’t Battlefront 3 which means it could be something entirely new.

There’s plenty of Star Wars news and rumors going around right now so it’s always exciting to hear more information about the fracnhise. It sounds like Lucasfilm Games has a lot of studios working on different projects right now, so it’ll be interesting to find out which one inherited Knights of the Old Republic. Whoever it is though, has pretty big shoes to fill as it is one of the most successful Star Wars video game franchises out there.
