Skyward Sword

A Skyward Sword Switch Remaster Apparently Exists

Posted on August 18, 2020January 2, 2021 by Samuel Rivera

Wii’s Skyward Sword is the only pre Breath of the  Wild 3-D Zelda that has yet to be remade or remastered. Nintendo’s lack of urgency in porting Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD into the Nintendo Switch has had many a Zelda fan a bit bummed at the company, as the titles should be easy enough to port to the popular handheld.

While there are no indications that those titles will be ported to the Switch any time soon, there is at least a glimmer of hope in the form of an UK Amazon listing of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword  (which seems to have been taken down since), the listing detailed a remaster of the motion controlled Wii Zelda game.

Many times, these listings have proven to be right, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo announces the existence of the game soon enough. Next year the series turns 35 years of age, which would be the perfect time to release Skyward Sword, as the game launched back in 2011 commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda.

Can we dream of a Zelda HD Collection? Imagine Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora’s Mask 3D, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess, all in one collectible package!  Can we dream? Yes. Will it happen? No. Nintendo has gold on its hands and the games, while likely to eventually make their way into the E-Shop, will probably retail for $59.99 separately as has been Nintendo’s custom in terms of selling their first party software.

Skyward Sword is a one of the more divisive games in the series, it isn’t as beloved as other games in the series, and many complained about the motion controls. Personally, I found the game to be the weakest of the 3-D entries, even if the game made strides forwards in terms of storytelling. My main gripe with the game was that the style pioneered by Ocarina of Time had run its course, and the game felt a bit stale in comparison to Bethesda’s Skyrim.

I didn’t like the controls, as I felt they were unprecise by comparison to other Zelda games. Still, the Switch Joy-Cons are capable of motion controls, so there shouldn’t be much of an issue in translating the game to the original Switch model. Being that the Lite model has sold a ton as well, it is likely that the game has been or is being translated to a more conventional standard gamepad approach.

Being that Breath of the Wild 2 might not make an appearance until 2021, Zelda fans are thirsty for whatever they can get, Skyward Sword HD would fit that bill nicely. Here is hoping for news about that game soon enough, as well as other games that should be ported to the Switch.

Nintendo is secretive about their plans and with an upcoming competitive holiday season looming in which Sony and Microsoft will launch next gen systems, I am hoping that Nintendo has some big title planned for its holidays. Mainly, I am hoping for the ports of the Wii U Zelda remasters. We shall keep you posted.
