If you’re still trying to acquire a PlayStation 5, you know how difficult it has been. Imagine finally getting an order to go through, waiting for it to be delivered, and then opening your package to find something other than your PS5. Well, many Amazon customers in the UK experienced just that as the console released on November 19th.
The unfortunate situation has left Amazon customers without their consoles, forcing them to search for other means to secure the product. While the items in the box may vary, every report states that the delivery was delayed. When the PlayStation 5 is finally delivered, the box has clear tape on in, rather than the company’s usual tape.
Push Square manager Anthony Dickens, and MTV journalist and presenter, Bex April May were among the affected individuals. Amazon has acknowledged this issue and has claimed to, “put it right.”
An Amazon spokesperson told Eurogamer, “We’re all about making our customers happy, and that hasn’t happened for a small portion of these (PlayStation 5) orders. We’re really sorry about that and are investigating exactly what’s happened. We’re reaching out to every customer who’s had a problem and made us aware so we can put it right. Anyone who has had an issue with any order can contact our customer services team for help.

Days after the incident, customers still have not seen their PlayStation 5 consoles delivered. Everyone received their refunds, but many were upset enough to cancel future preorders with Amazon, or even cancel their Prime memberships.
There have also been mixed reports of how Amazon has been compensating these customers for their trouble. Some are saying they’ve been offered as little as 5 Euros, whereas some are reporting as much as 150 Euros in gift vouchers. These mixed reports have further fueled customers frustration in the matter.
So far, the only thing that has been brought to light in the matter, was a driver being caught on a home camera. Jenni Walker had ordered a PlayStation 5 for her son’s 16th birthday, and was amazed to see the driver scan the product, but put it back in the van.
Her husband posted this video to Twitter, which led to Amazon making a statement to Oxford Mail. “We have very high standards for our delivery service providers and how they treat customers. The delivery associate will no longer be delivering on Amazon’s behalf.”
So far, that’s the only proof of the common allegation that drivers are scanning their deliveries (PlayStation 5 consoles) and driving off. However, many Amazon customers have been left without a console and with the product being so hard to find now. They all thought they secured a copy, only to find out that it was in fact, stolen.
It seems the PlayStation 5 release just keeps getting harder and harder for people around the world. Scalpers are profiting from it, but people searching for the console aren’t. Hopefully, Sony can meet the increasing demand before the holiday season is over.
