Among Us Out Now on Switch – Play the Airship Map Early

Posted on December 18, 2020 by Nathan Grant

Until now, Among Us has only been available for mobile and PC players. It is out for download on the Nintendo Switch eShop as of December 15th. At the time of writing, it does not seem that there will be a physical release.

Feature-wise, Among Us is the same on Switch as it is on mobile, except for one nice little feature: early access to the Airship map. The Airship map will not be released for PC or mobile until 2021.

Still, As Switch users know well, there is no dedicated voice chat for Nintendo Online users. So unless you’re using the Nintendo Mobile app, you won’t be able to voice chat with other online players.

HOW TO PLAY AIRSHIP

The Airship map is easy to access– Switch players can just start it up like any other map.

From the main menu, start a session as a local game. Then, when you are choosing which map to play on the in-game lobby laptop, simply select Airship. Flip your lobby into online mode and wait for other players to join you. And there you have it, you are playing Airship before anyone else can.

TAKING THE WORLD BY STORM

Among Us is a game that has done a lot to help revitalize casual gaming. A sleeper hit, the game started out with little to no attention. Its developers simply wanted to be able to play Werewolf online, which is probably why Among Us has such mass appeal. A simple concept that can go a long way. Thanks to Twitch streamers, the game has become a global sensation. Who would’ve thought lying to strangers online could be so fun? Well, a lot of people, probably.

There’s no ranking, and the competition is friendly. From the games I have played, it seems to be an antidote to an old problem. For people who are intimidated by online gaming, whether it be competition or culture, Among Us is simple fun. Among Us harkens back to the old school days of just starting up a game and playing with your friends. There’s very little fluff, and the mechanics are extremely simple.

For Switch players, playing on Airship is certainly an unexpected benefit. For now, players who have downloaded Among Us have early access to the much-awaited Airship map. Originally announced by Among Us developers InnerSloth in November, Airship is not slated to release for other platforms until 2021. Sorry, PC users.

—

The price tag of the Switch release is $5.00, the same as playing on Steam. For mobile users, Among Us is still a free download.

It is unclear whether it is an intentional selling point, but playing Airship is definitely an incentive for a lot of people to re-download the game for their Switch. Getting a feel for the map early on will give players an edge over everyone else. Why not get faster at completing tasks? It could be the difference between winning and losing!

Among Us is available for download now from the Nintendo eShop. Get out there and find your vents!
