Following the lead of a lot of other titles, Final Fantasy VII Remake is making its way to the PlayStation 5. Titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the game will be upgraded to PlayStation 5 specs, and feature a brand new Yuffie episode.
This announcement has been a bit confusing to some degree. Current owners of the game are entitled to some of these features for free. If you already own the game on PlayStation 4, then you’ll be entitled to the main game upgrade.
However, this won’t include the Yuffie content, so you’ll need to pay separately for that. That price has not been announced yet, but preorders for the full PlayStation 5 package are ongoing now and cost $79.99.
A digital-only deluxe version is also up for preorder on the PlayStation Store. It comes with the standard version of the game, the PlayStation 5 upgrade, a digital artbook and a digital mini-soundtrack. It will also come with the Yuffie content, of course. This digital version of the game costs $89.99.
To make things a bit more confusing, Final Fantasy VII Remake is also the free PlayStation 4 game for PlayStation Plus members this March. Those that get the game through PlayStation Plus will not get the upgrade for free at all. Anyone who owns the game outside of PlayStation Plus can download the upgrade on its release date, June 10th.
The PlayStation 5 upgrade will include a photo mode, enhanced visuals, DualSense controller support including haptic feedback. It will also support two graphics modes, “Graphics Mode” and “Performance” Mode. Like in the past, Graphics Mode supports 4K resolution, and Performance Mode supports 60 frames per second. It will also be possible to carry your save over from the PlayStation 4 version.
The upgrade also features improved lighting, breathing new life into Midgar. Shadows and fog effects have been enhanced, as well. Some textures were improved too, which means that some of the lower quality textures from the PlayStation 4 version should be fixed.

The Yuffie episode will only be available with the PlayStation 5 version of the game. This episode will put you in control of Wutai ninja, Yuffie, while she goes after Shinra’s “ultimate Materia.” The idea is that another Avalanche team was active while Cloud and Barrett did their thing, and Yuffie is a part of that team. That doesn’t really line up with the original story of Final Fantasy VII but I think we are well past that at this point.
It will be a great way for players to get their hands on Yuffie before Part II comes out, whenever that might be. However, the Yuffie episode takes place in Midgar as well, so don’t expect any new places to show up in this expansion. The expansion will take place across only two chapters, so I don’t imagine it will be too long either.
I’m personally excited to play as Yuffie and see Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade in all its glory on the PlayStation 5. It could be a while before we see the next installment in the series, so this will be a good way to tie us over until then.
