Huge “Go Beyond’ Update Coming For Pokemon GO

Posted on November 27, 2020January 10, 2021 by Nathan Grant

Players of Pokemon GO have a lot to look forward to next week. Starting December 1st, 2020, the game is rolling out a gigantic Pokemon GO update, aptly named GO Beyond. Originally announced on November 18th, there is still a ton for players to do to prepare for this patch. Here is a quick breakdown of its major features and changes:

Level Cap Increase

Pokemon GO’s update is completely overhauling its experience system. According to their website, catching and evolving Pokemon can give up to double the experience it used to. What’s more, the level cap is increasing from 40 to 50. There will be new requirements to level up from 40-50, with each level having its own quest requirements.

Players who reach level 40 before January 1st, 2020, will get the exclusive title of “Legacy 40,” which comes with a Gyarados hat for their avatars.

There will be new “Candy XL” items that will give more CP to your currently maxed out Pokemon, and new timed research events that will help players level more efficiently.

Kalos Pokemon Coming to Pokemon GO

Pokemon from the Kalos region will finally make their debut on Pokemon GO. Like every new region introduced to GO, the release of Pokemon will be staggered. Starting December 2nd, 17 Kalos Pokemon will be released for players to catch and evolve.

This list of 17 day-1 Pokemon will include: the Kalos starters and their evolutions, Bunnelby and Diggersby, the Fletchling line, Litleo and both forms of Pyroar, and Klefki.

Battle League Changes

Pokemon GO
Pokemon GO players will enjoy all the changes, and additions that the newest update brings.

Battle League will now have 14 more ranks, increasing from 10 to 24. These ranks have entirely new rewards structures, with unique rewards for players who can make it to the top 4. This changes things drastically for competitive players, but that is a huge topic on its own.

Battle League seasons will last 3 months each, coinciding with the new seasons of Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO update will add Seasons

By far the biggest change coming to Pokemon GO in December are seasons. Depending on a player’s location in either the northern or southern hemisphere, different Pokemon will appear based on the season. For example, more fire type Pokemon will appear in the summer, and more ice types will appear in the winter. Just like in Pokemon Black and White, seasons will dictate what form of Deerling players will encounter.

The seasons will be continually updated, but each will last for 3 months. Each season will include exclusive in-game events, new Mega Forms, and research assignments.

The game’s website mentions that this update will affect what type of Pokemon players will encounter based on weather, but it is unclear what changes will be made to the game’s weather system specifically.

Kicking off the seasons system on December 1, the Season of Celebration will begin. Day 1 will be a celebration of generations past, including quests to catch Pokemon from all regions before Kalos’ introduction. We will have to wait and see what each quest has in store, but it seems as if players will be able to get those Pokedex numbers up before Kalos Pokemon start to appear on December 2nd.
