This 1998 PlayStation classic is finally back and will be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and mobile. SaGa Frontier Remastered will feature eight playable characters this time since they added Fuse for this remaster.
Relive A Classic
SaGa Frontier Remastered will bring the PlayStation classic to current consoles. Choose between 8 different characters and watch each of their stories unfold. Each character has their own path and endings and your choices throughout the game will effect how these stories unfold.
Just like the original game, this remaster will feature classic turn-based combat. There is a ton of replay value in this game since every protagonist gets their own story. Square Enix has even added a new playable protagonist, Fuse, as well as loads of other new features.
Other Added Features
Along with the new playable character Fuse and the route that comes with his character, there are few other things Square Enix has detailed about this release. There will be new story events that were originally planned but never implemented in the first release of the game. To access them, you’ll want to select “Activate Additional Content” when you start a new game.
New Game Plus will also be a feature. and while this isn’t a new concept, it is incredibly exciting to see an RPG include this feature because it allows for further leveling and character growth. You’ll be able to carry over items, credits, parameters, and techniques from save data.
The option to show map pointers was added and this will allow you to see pointers above areas that access other areas. This can help with exploration and clearly show what areas you can transition to.
A few other features they added will help with gameplay as well. Faster battle speed settings, the ability to escape from battles, a scenario chart to log objectives, and auto-equip were all added as well.
These new features are all optional of course, so if you choose to experience SaGa Frontier as it was on the PlayStation, you can do so. Some of these features are simply quality of life improvements while others add more to the game. Regardless of which new features you want to use, they are sure to help you during your playthrough if you want them to.
SaGa Frontier’s Release Date
SaGa Frontier Remastered will be available on April 15th, 2021. To celebrate, Square Enix is going to be doing a live broadcast that many developers of the game will be a part of. The broadcast will also feature the game’s producer Masanori Ichikawa.
For anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to experience this title, this should be a great way to do it. Classic JRPGs are just hard to come by these days, but the old ones old up extremely well and are still worth playing to this day. SaGa Frontier is no exception and I’m excited to get my hands on this game.
