Tales of Arise

Tales of Arise Finally Comes September 2021

Posted on April 25, 2021 by Dakota Deitsch

The Tales series is one that has been around for a while now. Since the release of Tales of Phantasia back in 1995, the series now has sixteen titles as well as numerous spin-off titles. It has also spawned other forms of media like manga and anime. The newest installment to the video game franchise, Tales of Arise, is set to be released on September 10, 2021 and will serve as the seventh addition to the main games.

Action- RPG

The classic Tales combat system, the Linear Motion Battle System has unified the series and serves as a building block for most main game entries. Tales of Arise will continue to use the Linear Motion Battle System, bringing the classic Tales experience we have all grown to love. There will be additions to combat as well, but it has been said that this game will retain classic Tales gameplay.

Tales of Arise looks stunning.

The game was made using Unreal Engine 4 giving them the ability to present it in stunning HD. The world looks wonderful and is certainly an upgrade from previous Tales games.

Setting and Story

Tales of Arise takes place on planet Dahna, a medieval themed world and above them in the sky is Rena, a technologically advanced planet. Rena’s advanced technology has given them power of Dahna for the last 300 years.

A gorgeous open-world.

The main protagonists are a Dahna native man named Alphen and a Rena native girl named Shionne. No doubt there is bound to be some tension there. There are other party members as well that all seem to have their own combat specialty. You can watch the trailer here and see for yourself.

Based on the trailer, it seems like they are finally going to be fighting back against Rena’s control. It also seems like Arise will continue to follow the narrative theme choice of most Tales games and explore the issues of different races coexisting. One thing a love about the Tales series is their consistency and dedication to the franchise.

Release Date

Tales of Arise is set to be released on September 10, 2021. The game was originally scheduled to release last year, but ultimately got pushed back due to COVID-19. I am glad they took their time with it though, as it seems to have paid off.

In an interview with IGN, producer Yusuke Tomizawa explained that despite having to delay the game and change how they work through the pandemic, it has been a mostly positive outcome. He explained that it gave them the time to focus on quality as well as ports to the current generation of consoles. That certainly gives players more options on where they want to experience this new Tales game.

The game will be available on both current and last gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as Steam. There is no news suggesting that it is coming to the Nintendo Switch yet. The game was announced in 2019, so its wonderful to finally see it coming out.
