Real or Fake? ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil’ Leaks

Posted on October 2, 2020January 9, 2021 by Samuel Rivera

Nintendo is known for stellar first party games, and some of the most beloved video game franchises in history. The company is also known for its secretive nature when it comes to unveiling new titles.

In this day and age of social media and internet news outlets, we have gotten used to following our favorite games development cycle all the way up to their release date. Sadly, that hasn’t been the case with Nintendo’s much anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the Wild 2 seems to be packed with ‘Evil’, but that doesn’t mean that ‘Evil’ has to be part of the title. ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil’ sounds odd.

Conspicuously absent from every Nintendo Direct showcase since it was first unveiled last year, the tentatively named ‘Breath of the Wild 2’ remains as mysterious as its ‘darker’ tone implied in its one and only  2019 trailer.

Nintendo’s silence has opened the door for speculation, and rumors to spring about. The only certainty at this point is that “Breath of the Wild 2” will not see the light of day in 2020, and is likely a Fall-Winter 2021 release.

Still a new rumor, that might perhaps be ‘leak’ sprung today on social media:

The leak, which was posted by Twitter user: tlspmoon. The unconfirmed leak is remarkable for a few reasons, but to Zelda fans hungry for updates on BotW’s sequel only one name on the list matters: ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil teaser trailer (2021)’

Can The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil  ‘leak’ be trusted?

I would not bet the house on it. It would make sense that at some point in the near future Nintendo would show something, anything, pertaining to the much awaited ‘next’ Zelda entry, and yet, other less probable games stick out like a sore thumb on the list.

Namely, Grand Theft Auto III, and The Super Mario Galaxy 2 DLC (as part of the Super Mario 3D All Stars Collection). For starters, Rockstar hasn’t shown much interest in bringing their mega hit series to the Switch. Grand Theft Auto III would be an odd choice, considering that the Switch is perfectly capable of running the more popular Grand Theft Auto V even better than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 did.

If Rockstar (and Take Two) wanted to bring a port of the series to the Switch it would likely be the fifth entry, as opposed to a 20 year old game that has aged badly in its visual department.

Moving on to the ‘Super Mario Galaxy 2’ DLC release, this one is more plausible, but it is weird that Nintendo would do this, especially when the company intends for the collection to be pulled out of stores (and the e-shop) on March, 2021.

Marked for a December 18th release, this priced DLC would add the one great 3-D Mario game from the pre-WiiU era that was missing from September’s Mario 3-D All Stars collection. Its existence is more feasible than GTA3 however, because at some point Nintendo is bound to port that game to the Switch.

Lastly, ‘ The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil’ is as good a title as any, but for some reason, as a long time Zelda fan the game strikes me as odd. Perhaps it is because the title reminded me of the infamous CDi: Link: Faces of Evil.

All this said, it wouldn’t surprise me if we did get a Zelda update of some sort, and at the same time ‘leaks’ that turn out to be false are common these days. Grand Theft Auto III is a big red flag in this case, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up for a new ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil’ trailer this month..
