In an interesting development, Nintendo has filed patents for Hinged detachable Joy Cons (see illustrations) for it’s Nintendo Switch hybrid console. The development is interesting considering that Nintendo does sell a Pro controller already and the biggest issue with the Joy Cons has been the “Drift” malfunction that has plagued some of them.
The slight bend at the top of the joy cons will allow for some flexibility, and perhaps will fit more comfortably on larger hands. It seems like a peripheral that will work with the current model of Switch (except for the new Light model of course), however considering the rumors of an upcoming “Pro” model, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is related to said device also.
I will be interesting to see how Nintendo approaches the drift issue and whether the Hinged Joy Cons are cured of the defect.
